Women’s Basketball Opens Puerto Rico Clasico with Morgan State

SAN JUAN – The Boston College women’s basketball team opens the Puerto Rico Thanksgiving Clasico tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. against Morgan State.

Boston College outlasted Holy Cross, 52-42, on Wednesday thanks in large part to a career-high 20 points and a 25-6 run over the last 13:17 of the game. BC held the Crusaders scoreless over the last 8:15 of the game. Taina Mair registered 10 points, five rebounds and five assists in the victory. 

By the Numbers

20 – Todd is the first freshman to score at least 20 points off the bench since Kaylah Ivey against UMass Lowell in 2019-20. She is averaging 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds over the last two games coming off the bench.

– In two games off the bench, T’Yana Todd is averaging 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, highlighted by 20 points on Wednesday. Watch if the freshman continues to give BC a spark

– The Eagles are shooting 77.7 percent from the line over the last four games after shooting 52.7 percent in the first two. See if they can keep shooting well from the charity stripe.

– Morgan State is forcing 26.7 turnovers per game this season. See if the Eagles can protect the ball after committing a season-low 17 on Wednesday.

– Boston College is 26th in the country in steal rate and forcing 21.5 turnovers per game. See if the Eagles can force MSU into mistakes for easy baskets. 

Scouting Morgan State

– Morgan State is 6-0 after defeating St. Francis (PA) on Tuesday.

– Destini Ward scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Lady Bears.

– For the season, the Bears are led by Ja’Niah Henson (16.0 ppg) and Charlene Shepherd (14.2), who are averaging a combined 30.2 points per game this season.

– Shepherd is also averaging a team-high 7.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

– MSU is eighth in the nation in turnover margin and ninth in steals per game.

– The Lady Bears will play Stephen F. Austin this evening.
